Regulations, Terms and Conditions

Some items in this document are repeated in the Entry Form and the index page, possibly in precis. If there is a discrepancy between the two, this Terms and Conditions document shall prevail.

Organisation

Dartford Junior Chess Open 2025 is organised by Miroslav Danov from Dartford Junior Chess Club. Chief Arbiter of the event is Toan Hoang

Entries

The submission of an Entry Form and payment of the entry fee denotes acceptance of these terms and conditions. No entry is complete until the Entry Fee has been received. The organisers reserve the right to refuse any entry without explanation.

FIDE

The event will be rated only with ECF (national rating) ie. FIDE ID numbers are not needed

ECF Membership

All entrants must be at least Gold or Platinum members of the English Chess Federation. (Note: the ECF Silver Membership category has been merged with Gold and discontinued.)

Eligibility and Pairings

The Rating lists for eligibility for rating-limited sections will be the July 2025 list published by the ECF before the date of the event. For the U1400 U1000 and U600, the entrant's rating must be lower than the rating specified in the ECF list. Pairings in all sections will be according to FIDE Swiss pairing rules, using the Swiss Manager computer program.

The following hierarchy of ratings will be applied: All sections: ER, ES (Key: E = ECF; R = Rapid; S = Standard)

The organisers reserve the right to transfer players between sections at any time.

Default time

None: The player has until their time expires to begin their game

Analysis

No analysis is allowed in the playing areas. Separate rooms will be provided for analysis.

Clocks

All games will be played using digital clocks.

Withdrawal

Entrants who withdraw before 11 July 2025 - will be entitled to a refund of their Entry Fee less a £10 administration charge. Entrants who withdraw on or after 11 July 2025 will not be eligible for a refund.

Mobile Phones

During play mobile phones and other electronic devices (such as smartwatches and fitbits) must be left with parents in the waiting area. A player must not have any such device about their person or carry it with them during play. A player will be immediately forfeited if during the game any such device either

  • (a) makes any sound; or
  • (b) is found to be switched on; or
  • (c) is found to be about their person or being carried by them.
Parental Responsibility

Parents or guardians are responsible for their children during the tournament. The organisers and helpers are not able to act “in loco parentis” and are not able to take responsibility for any child's actions, or for the actions of anyone that may affect your child.

Liability

The organisers accept no responsibility for any loss, theft or accident during the tournament.

Right to Refuse Entry

The Chief Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry without being required to state a reason, and to transfer players between tournaments at any time.

Zero Tolerance to Abuse

The Chief Arbiter is empowered to expel a who shows dissent by word or action towards an arbiter, or any member of staff connected with the tournament.
